The “Fake Picnic” is Blowing Up on Instagram

With our vacation plans limited due to the coronavirus, many of our summertime experiences are no longer possible. Our Instagram pages have been pretty bare and to deal with this, instead of posing next to beaches or in tropical islands, people are posting photos of them staying close to home.

Instagram’s most stylish people are posing with grass and blankets or bed sheets in their backyards with picnic-like setups all to get the perfect shot. And you don’t need to even leave your house to snap the picnic photo, which is great when trying to maintain social distancing. We’re not even sure if these picnics are real or if they’re simply staged for the photo, but does it really matter?

So what do you need to wear? Some people are choosing to wear summer’s hottest trend—cottagecore, which works perfectly with the picnic aesthetic. Cottagecore is all about straw hats, gingham, floral print, and flowy, breezy dresses. While others are choosing to pose in swimsuits that we can only imagine were bought with vacations to exotic islands in mind. No matter what you wear, as long as you pose with a picnic blanket, picnic basket, and some picnic snacks, you’ll be nailing the trend.
