The TV Reboots We’re Looking Forward to in 2020

Elizabeth Berkley, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen and Mario Lopez in "Saved by the Bell"

2020 is all about making old things new again, and reboots of the shows we enjoyed watching as children are getting new life. We can’t wait to see what some of our favorite characters have been up to through the years, and there are a lot of revivals and reboots to look forward to this year.

Saved By the Bell

This series aired from 1989 to 1993, and it’s set to premiere on NBC’s upcoming streaming platform Peacock, which launches in April 2020. Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater), Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), and Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) will be reprising their roles. In the follow-up to the series, Morris is the governor of California and he sends low-income high school students to Pacific Palisades’ wealthy Bayside High.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl will be coming back with a completely new cast of teenagers in a 10-episode reboot of the series on HBO Max. The only familiar voice returning is Kristen Bell, who was the narrator of the original series. The logline reads, “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”

Punky Brewster

Soleil Moon Frye will be reprising her role as the lead in the Punky Brewster reboot, which will air on Peacock. In June, Frye shared her excitement about the reboot on Twitter, “She is back! I am back! #punkypower forever! Yipppeeee.”
