It’s been reported that TikTok is planning to make a major push into gaming just last year, but it seems their plans have changed. TikTok maker ByteDance is scaling down its Nuverse gaming brand, casting a shadow of doubt over the mini-games that run on this social media platform.

Reuters was the first to break the news about Nuverse’s future, reporting that ByteDance wants to wind down this brand and retreat from mainstream video games. They reportedly told the employees to stop working on unreleased games by December and are looking for ways to divest from the already launched titles.

A ByteDance’s spokesperson addressed the news by simply saying, “We regularly review our businesses and make adjustments to center on long-term strategic growth areas. Following a recent review, we’ve made the difficult decision to restructure our gaming business.”

Reuters reports this decision won’t affect casual games that run on TikTok or TikTok’s sister app Douyin, launched by the gaming brand Ohayoo.

Marvel Snap the most notable game created by Nuverse, also shouldn’t be affected by ByteDance’s decision. According to their official statement, Marvel Snap will continue to operate and flourish in the future, regardless of any changes at Nuverse.
