Knives Out singlehandedly renewed interest in whodunit murder mystery films, and it was just a matter of time before copycats emerged. While we wait for the sequel of Rian Johnson’s smash hit, here are three 2022 whodunit films you can wrap your head around in the meantime.

Death on the Nile

Death on the Nile is based on Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels, which served as inspiration for Knives Out. This time around, the world-class detective, played by Kenneth Branagh, is investigating a murder of a young heiress while on vacation on the Nile. This film serves as a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, which came out in 2017.

Amsterdam

David O. Russell’s next film was a long time coming and he decided to explore the murder mystery genre this time around. Amsterdam stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington as three World War I friends who become the prime suspects in a murder in the Dutch capital during the ’30s.

See How They Run

Another upcoming murder mystery with hints of comedy is set in London’s West End during the ’50s. It centers on detectives played by Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan as they try to piece together a puzzling whodunit mystery in London’s theater underground.
