Why are People Putting Pickles in Their Beer?

The internet is full of weird combinations like Oreos in orange juice, peanut butter and hamburgers, french fries, and ice cream. But the latest food combo that people can’t seem to get enough of is beer and pickles. Sure, we put pickles in Bloody Marys, so why wouldn’t we put them in beer?

Pickles and beer work best with light, cheap beers to make them tastier, although you can try it with more expensive beers as well. All you have to do is pour your beer into a glass and put a pickle into it. Instantly, your drink will start foaming. You don’t want to leave the pickle in for too long as it will go from having a nice dill taste to tasting like a pickle. We suggest taking it out after a minute or two.

Putting pickles in beer isn’t a new thing as it started in the Midwest. In 2017 Joe McClure, co-owner of the Brooklyn- and Detroit-based McClure’s Pickles told Esquire that the pickle taste compliments the beer, “It complements the lager because of the slight vinegar and salt notes that get picked up.”

Do you have a jar of pickles and a cheap beer in your fridge? Are you willing to try out the strange combination?
