HBO gave us one of its most star-studded dramas in recent memory with Big Little Lies, and we were convinced its second season would be its last. The talks about its potential follow-up emerged in recent months, but will they actually come to fruition?

Based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, this series centered on five women living in an affluent California beach town. Their seemingly picture-perfect lives suddenly unravel after they become embroiled in a murder investigation.

The A-list cast of Big Little Lies included Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, and Meryl Streep. The series went on to win several Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Awards during its run, and the cliffhanger at the end of Season 2 left the door open for a potential new chapter.

It’s been over four years since this series ended its run, but the creative team behind it repeatedly hinted it could come back. Just last week, Nicole Kidman discussed the show’s future during a Q&A at the CME Group Tour Championship, and said “We will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.”

Nothing is confirmed just yet, and Season 3 will be tough to put together, given the cast’s busy schedules. HBO president Casey Bloys previously dismissed the possibility of the third season but added it “would be great to get the band back together at some point” because they really loved working together.
