After a lot of anticipation, the MTV VMAs nominations are finally in, and Taylor Swift is leading the way with eight nods. It’s not a shocker to see her come on top, but this year’s MTV VMAs nominations brought several snubs and surprises our way that we didn’t see coming.

Surprise: Demi Lovato – “Swine”

Genre nominations at MTV VMAs aren’t always easy to predict, with the exception of the best pop video. This year’s nominations, however, delivered several shockers, starting with Demi Lovato’s “Swine”.

Snub: “Unholy” for Best Collaboration

Sam Smith and Kim Petras received several nominations for their collaboration “Uholy”, including video of the year and song of the year, so it’s quite a shocker to see that they’re not in the running for best collaboration.

Surprise: Karol G and Shakira – “TQG”

Seeing “Unoloy” left out of the best collaboration category didn’t sting too much since many deserving songs made the cut, including “TQG” by Karol G and Shakira.

Snub: Blackpink – “Pink Venom”

Blackpink’s “Pink Venom” was a K-pop song with the best chance to break into the major categories, but it failed to score nods for video and song of the year.

Surprise: Beyoncé

Beyoncé fully deserves to be in the running for artist of the year at MTV VMAs, but it’s pretty surprising to see her get her first nod for this award right now since she didn’t even release a new album this year.
