There is no denying that streetwear is a force. Its influence on fashion is becoming more apparent, to the point where haute couture and urban fashion are largely indistinguishable from one another. Streetwear, which at one time could be defined as graphic T-shirts, baggy cuts, and sneakers, now has a much broader definition. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the most noteworthy streetwear brands of the moment.

Supreme

New York’s Supreme is one of the brands that revolutionized the way clothing brands work. The label basically invented the concept of “drops”—releasing new items in highly limited numbers across an extended period of time. With customers lining up around the block for the chance of copping a new item, they must be doing something right.

Billionaire Boys Club

Founded by Pharrell Williams, it’s hardly surprising that Billionaire Boys Club became a streetwear legend so quickly. The brand has a colorful and unique aesthetic, and it markets rare collections of t-shirts, jackets, and hoodies.

Off-White

Off-White was created by designer Virgil Abloh, who went on to become the creative director of Louis Vuitton, and one of the most influential names in fashion. The bold prints, ironic labels and the love the print got from young crowds soon made it one of the most coveted brands of its kind.

It’s the place to find fun pieces with bold colorways and playful prints and it’s taken over FashionTok. And Cider’s Instagram has 1.6 million followers, so you know it’s the place to shop!

Patterned trousers, pin-front tops, sweater vests, corset tops, satin minidresses, and matching sets are all over the website. What’s even cooler is everything is under $50! What a steal! There are even items that can be preordered, which reduces waste.

Cider went viral this summer with its pastel-toned pieces, but for fall they’re featuring darker colors, with the same flirty and fun vibe. We’re loving the pleated skirts and collared sweaters combinations.

Here at Top Pop Today, we’re big believers that sustainability isn’t at odds with fashion (and vice versa!). Ever on the search for slow fashion brands that put an emphasis on ethics, most recently we’ve come across Berlin-based brand CRUBA. Mira Von Der Osten, the brand’s designer and founder, admits that in a world where everything is fast-paced and companies are measured by their short-term success, it’s challenging to forge a way that is slower. But at the same time, Von Der Osten believes that the future of the fashion industry is “slow”.

“CRUBA stands for Creating a Resolution Using a Berlin Argument,” she further relayed in an interview with Licorne Magazine. “It is a constant starting point as a source of inspiration for the city we live in. Design today is not about designing the new piece; it is rather a service to the women. We are not confined to be minimalistic or extravagant or lush etc. We can be both and our style is an immediate result of what surrounds us.”

The brand, says Von Der Osten, aims at creating clothes that ease the way we inhabit our skin—a worthy goal if any. Having studied fashion at Parsons in NY and Paris, she started CRUBA back in 2009, driven by what she calls “the sensual work of sculpting fabric”.

“Fabrics themselves often unleash flows of inspiration and creativity,” says the designer. Other sources of inspiration include anything from a certain light to an art exhibition. “Here in Berlin one can also feel a Weltschmerz, a world weariness, one of those great German words one cannot really translate,” adds Von Der Osten. “It describes a common longing or pain that is quite inspirational to me. You have to be in tune with everything to be alert to the smallest detail that can get you going.”

According to Von Der Osten, she tries to be a storyteller through her work. She admits that part of her brain tells stories through her designs. These stories, ultimately, stem from her love of people and people watching. The work itself, says Von Der Osten, brings her closer to people and closer to the world.

The brand’s sustainable designs are intended to fit into your wardrobe and give it an artsy twist. Head to their online shop.

If you’re looking for new brands to introduce to your wardrobe this summer, Staud should definitely be on your radar. Based in LA, its clothes are trendy without being too much on the nose, with stand-alone pieces that are to die for. “If fashion is a never-ending pursuit of style, then STAUD is what happens after you’ve found it,” reads Staud’s website.

Recent favorites of ours include Staud’s gingham handbags and lavender shorts, made for everyday wear but also suitable for more fancy occasions.

“We wanted to create collections that were not overly trend-driven that had a timeless quality and remain affordable,” explained co-founder Sarah Staudinger in an interview with Harper’s BAZAAR. Having launched her brand with George Augusto in 2015, Staudinger goal was to create clothes that are both empowering and accessible – playful, yet wearable.

Fit is also important for Staudinger, (“In a perfect world, you have clothing you will love forever arrive at your door and fit you perfectly,” she reflected once in an interview with SSENSE.)

But its perhaps Staud’s accessories, and more specifically their handbags, which really make them stand out as a brand. “We think our bags are unique and fun but at the same time have a really timeless essence to them,” Staudinger says. “I think our customers see their style versatility and are excited about creating outfits with them.”

Take a peek at some items from Staud’s recent collection and share with us your favorites:

Recently, major fashion brands have decided to venture past clothing and into home décor collections. The collections complement the clothing and they allow customers to bring their own style into their homes. Several fashion brands have released their home collections over the past year and these are the ones you should start incorporating into your home. After all, your living space is a reflection of you and we’re spending more and more time at home, so why not live in style?

Mounser

After the pandemic caused Amanda Assad, the jewelry designer behind the brand Mounser, to question her business model, she decided to start painting to focus her anxieties. Now the sculptural jewelry brand includes pottery and artwork inspired by nature.

Comme Si

Comme Si, known for their luxury socks, teamed up with NYC-based interior design incubator Lichen for their first collaboration—a collection of socks with a coproduced zine and sock laundry bag.

CaSa

Brought to you by Chelsea Hansford, the creative director of Simon Miller, this collection features vintage and new products that are created by Hansford’s friends or produced using excess fabrics from the Simon Miller line. “I want it to be more than just ‘Simon Miller is producing some home goods. I really want the whole lifestyle element of the house to be shoppable,” Hansford told The Zoe Report.
