]]>If we had to pick a news story that dominated last week, it was certainly the rumored Harry Potter reboot being developed by HBO Max. All hell broke loose after several reliable outlets shared the news, but is the reboot of our favorite magical franchise truly happening?
It’s been reported by multiple sources that the Harry Potter reboot is in very early development at HBO Max, but officials are yet to confirm these rumors. Warner Bros. and HBO Max tried to debunk them by releasing the joint statement that reads, “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”
Even if there’s no truth to these rumors, it’s not difficult to see why they started circling around. HBO Max is already developing reboots of Gossip Girl and Sex and the City, so what’s one more? A Harry Potter revival is bound to happen at some point in time, as well, but is that moment finally here?
Warner Bros’ official statement says otherwise, but several sources claim that “conversations are taking place” without any writers or clear plot points. Fans of the franchise didn’t seem too enthusiastic about the prospect of a live-action series and many claim they won’t be supporting it.
By developing a Harry Potter series, Warner Bros. and HBO Max could be trying to compete with Disney, but they’re already doing that with Game of Thrones spin-offs. This reboot will happen eventually, but it’s still unclear if we’ll get to board Hogwarts Express in the nearby future.

Over the last few months, many events have been canceled due to the government recommendation that we self-isolate as much as possible and avoid public gatherings. Fortunately, thanks to modern technology, many events have been able to take place in an online capacity.
The Harry Potter event “Back To Hogwarts” is the latest event to jump on the bandwagon.
Every year, Harry Potter fans meet at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters to mark the start of term (September 1). The event takes place in London but this year, fans all over the world will be able to attend. The event will take place virtually and an open invitation has been extended to all fans of the wizarding franchise.
To encourage people to avoid meeting at the station, special guests will be appearing on the live stream of the event. James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) and Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) have been confirmed as special guests for the event.
James Phelps said of the event: “I’m so excited to be playing a part in the first ever digital Back to Hogwarts! 2020 has definitely been a strange year and it’s really important that we all do everything we can to keep safe, including staying home. I hope fans will join us and keep the celebrations virtual.”

]]>American movie-goers are hoping that theaters will finally re-open this fall, but many projects postponed their release waiting for that moment to come. That didn’t stop theaters from re-opening in several other countries, but they ended up streaming old movies due to the lack of new releases.
This proved as a winning formula for several beloved projects, including Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone. It’s been recently reported that this movie neared a billion-mark on international box office thanks to its re-issue in China.
Harry Potter isn’t the first movie to find new fame in the post-lockdown era. Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar also found huge success after being re-issued in China, and so did several movies that come out earlier this year. Dolittle starring Robert Downey Jr. and Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel were considered box-office bombs when they first came out, but the reopening of theaters in China led to renewed interest in this action flicks.
This movie trend isn’t here to stay if theaters start re-opening as planned, allowing new releases to take charge. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is expected to lead the way by premiering on August 26th in several countries around the world, a week before reaching China and the US.
