Kroger predicts that more shoppers will regularly choose store brand alternatives instead of national brands in 2025, in an attempt to save some money while still enjoying the high quality that private labels provide.
Acidic, briny, and fermented flavors will finally get their five minutes in the spotlight next year, with olives, pickles, sauerkraut, and kimchi experiencing a rise in popularity among Kroger’s customers.
Protein-rich foods such as chicken and yogurt are never going out of style, but Kroger’s data predicts the rise of plant-based proteins such as beans, lentils, and hemp seeds.
If you’re a huge fan of all things spicy, you’ll be happy to hear that spices and peppers from international cuisines will be everywhere in 2025, including our wings, pizza, and pasta.
Caesar salad has been going stronger than ever in 2024, and its domination will continue next year, along with other unexpected flavor combos involving Caesar dressing.

]]>No movie night is complete without a delicious bag of popcorn, so Netflix decided to give us one of their own. They joined forces with Walmart to make your binge-watching sessions more fun with their own popcorn brand, but this launch stirred quite a commotion on social media.
Netflix’s Now Popping is available at Walmart stores nationwide for $4.49 per 8-ounce bag, and it comes in two flavors: “Cult Classic Cheddar Kettle” and “Swoonworthy Cinnamon Kettle”. The streamer decided to launch its own popcorn line because “movie night and popcorn go together like a hot dog and a bun, ice cream and sprinkles, or a beach day and a lounge chair” and joined forces with Popcorn Indiana to make it happen.
The news stirred quite a commotion on social media after the popular X/Twitter account DiscussingFilm posted it on their page. X user @theerkj commented on it by writing “Does it cost extra to share it with family”, poking fun at Netflix’s password-sharing policies, and attracted 12 million views and 480,000 likes along the way.
Many people also felt this wasn’t the kind of business endeavor that Netflix should be focusing on right now. Some joked the price of popcorn would rise every year since Netflix has a habit of significantly increasing its subscription rates, while others felt that making quality content should be the streamer’s main priority.

]]>As we enter a new year, many of us are making commitments to improve our health, wellbeing, and general lifestyle. One of the most popular ways to approach this is to dip into—or wholeheartedly embrace—the “sober curious” trend. Rather than swearing off alcohol altogether, this lifestyle involves significantly reducing your alcohol intake whilst enjoying alternatives, including 0% alcohol beers, beautifully crafted alcohol-free spirits, and healthy, tasty smoothies. Read on for three key reasons why this lifestyle could be for you.
As with so many alcohol-related issues, health is top of many people’s agenda when they try the sober curious lifestyle. We all know that drinking to excess is bad for us, and swapping out some of your Friday night cocktails for mocktails can make a massive difference in terms of your energy levels, skin and hair health, emotional state, and sleep. Why not order in some artisanal “gin” to make some mocktails, a good one has all the flavor and aroma of the real stuff, only with 0% alcohol.
If you’re going out for drinks regularly, you don’t need to be told how expensive drinking alcohol can be. Whether you’re picking up a round for your friends or simply treating yourself to a few after-work wines, these bills can mount up. Whilst ordering low-or-no-alcohol drinks out can still get pricey, you will tend to drink less of them, as mocktails and the like won’t have the hazy effect that makes you forget quite how much you’ve already consumed.
If health and money aren’t motivators, many people find that when they’re drinking less, they actually have a better time. Memories are clearer, conversations make sense, and you can leave the party or event at a sensible time, basking in the glow of satisfaction that comes from knowing that tomorrow, there will be no hangover to contend with. A sober curious approach means you can still enjoy a few drinks here and then if the mood does strike you, but not every event will centre around the alcohol.

]]>If you keep up with food trends then you’ll no doubt have seen the rise in rejection of “ultra-processed” foods. This term refers to food products that have been produced in a certain way or had certain ingredients added to them which makes them very processed and bear little resemblance to any natural food item. Here’s why opting for non-processed, real food is becoming more popular.
As people become more aware of the health implications of ultra-processed foods, there’s an increasing desire for clarity and honesty when it comes to food production. This means people want food that has simple ingredients. A classic test of this concept is to check a food product ingredients list and see how many items in the list are complete jargon to you. People want “real” food so that they can understand how it’s been made.
Gut-healthy foods have been thrown into the spotlight in recent years. With so many people having digestion issues it’s no wonder we are all looking to our diets to see what might be the cause. Having food that’s crammed with preservatives and chemicals is causing serious damage to the gut microbiome, so natural, real food is much preferred.

]]>One of the biggest food trends over the past year has been fermented food. This kind of food has been popular for a long time, but the recent obsession with “gut-healthy foods” has seen it thrown into the spotlight even more. Foods that have been fermented are often sour and tangy, which a lot of people love as a flavor, and their benefits on the gut microbiome are even better. Here are three to try if you’re new to this trend.
This food is made using kefir grains and milk. The grains help the milk to ferment without going bad and can produce either a milk-like drink or yogurt. Either way, you’ll have a very sour and tangy dairy product that has amazing effects on your gut health.
This dish is made using vegetables and uses a process that allows them to ferment just using water and various flavorings. The classic version uses cabbage and carrot but can be done with other kinds of veg too. The result is a spicy and tangy flavor that pairs well with so many other dishes.
Think of this as a more interesting version of tofu. Made using fermented soya beans, this vegan food is dense and high in protein. You can use it to make sandwiches or stir fry.

]]>When scrolling through socials, we all need to be careful about taking nutritional advice too seriously. While there are some certified dieticians and nutritionists posting on Instagram and TikTok, all too often people who are far from experts are happy to dole out advice relating to what and how we eat. That being said, one nutrition trend that has taken off online is totally backed up by science. It’s also reassuringly simple and easy to do—it’s called “30 plants a week”, and the clue is absolutely in the title. It’s all about aiming for 30 different plant sources across the course of a week—it may sound like a lot but it’s totally doable, and incredibly delicious! Check out these tips on how to make this nutrition trend work for you.
Depending on the type of plant, some portion sizes are quite small. For example, most dried fruits only require you to eat 30 grams to meet your nutritional needs. This means that topping your porridge (or cereal, toast, or yogurt) with a handful of fresh berries, a handful of nuts, some seeds, and some dried fruit will count as four towards your goal of 30!
A homemade soup that contains onion, potato, leek, and garlic will count as four towards your total, whilst a bean and vegetable stew is likely to offer even more. Remember, you’re looking to eat thirty different portions across the week, so it may be worth making a batch of soup or stew and then freezing the leftovers, so that you’re eating a variety across the week rather than the same meal on repeat.
High-quality herbal teas will count towards your goal. This means that if you have peppermint, lemon, ginger, and black tea on one day, you’re getting three plant portions just from your tea breaks! As ever, the focus is on variety, so if you’re stuck in a tea rut check out some different flavor combinations to introduce a greater range of plant portions to your diet.

]]>Food trends are constantly changing and evolving. With so many people sharing ideas and tips on TikTok and other social media platforms, there are always new recipes and products to get excited over. At the start of each new year, food fanatics often try to predict what will be trending in the months to come. Soup has been a popular dish for a while, and many people expect this to increase over the next year. Here are a few reasons why.
Fusion cooking has been getting lots of attention over the last few years for understandable reasons. Taking the best flavors and ingredients from certain cuisines and combining them to create new dishes is fun, interesting, and exciting. Soup is ideal for this, as there’s so much room to play around with different ingredients, techniques, and presentation.
As we all become increasingly more aware of the worrying effects of climate change, sustainability has increased in popularity. So many of the trends seen in fashion, hair, and beauty are heavily influenced by a need to be sustainable and eco-friendly, and the exact same can be said for food. Soup is the perfect choice here, as it’s the best way to use up leftovers and old vegetables.

With so many of us conscious of our fat, salt, and sugar intake, treats are increasingly limited to special occasions. For many of us in 2024, that will mean returning to the flavors of our childhoods, as we seek out traditional sweets and candies. It can be great fun to indulge in these sweet treats in the company of friends, as memories can come flooding back. Seek out a local traditional sweet shop and stock up on all your old favorites.
As health and wellness will continue to be major trends in 2024, some of us will turn to healthy, plant-based options with a dessert twist. Think salted caramel-flavored nuts, chocolate-dipped berries, and rice cakes infused with gelato flavors. This trend is all about having your cake and eating it, completely guilt-free.
Why have one treat when you could have a combination of two? Following on from the success of the cronut (the croissant-donut), retailers and chefs will be coming up with exciting new mixes, like popcorn-filled donuts, or sweet-loaded fries.

Rather than swearing off alcohol altogether, this lifestyle involves significantly reducing your alcohol intake whilst enjoying alternatives, including 0% alcohol beers, beautifully crafted alcohol-free spirits, and healthy, tasty smoothies.
