Set-Jetting
Set-jetting, aka using movies and TV shows for travel inspiration, will be one of the biggest travel trends of 2024, and Expedia offered several possible destinations worth exploring. Thailand (The White Lotus: Season 3), Romania (Wednesday: Season 2), Malta (Gladiator 2), Scottish Highlands (Outlander), and Greece (Argylle) made it to their list this year.
Tour Tourism
Tour tourism became all the rage in 2023 thanks to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, and its popularity isn’t fading away. According to Expedia’s survey, 70% of respondents are more likely to travel to a concert outside their own town, with over 40% saying they’d travel for a concert as an excuse to visit a new place.
Destination Dupes
This travel trend is all about exploring destinations that offer an affordable alternative to popular tourist attractions. Paros, Taipei, Liverpool, and Pattaya have been suggested as dupes for Santorini, Seoul, London, and Bangkok because they’re “a little unexpected, sometimes more affordable, and every bit as delightful.”

Most recently we’ve tuned into Brooke Saward’s travel blog, World of Wanderlust. Amassing a staggering half a million followers on Instagram alone, Saward’s platform offers tips, hacks, and advice that will upgrade your vacation.
Originally from Tasmania, Australia, this past year Saward’s travels have been reduced to more local adventures. According to the seasoned traveler, 90% of her travels have been on her own, documenting her trips and capturing the scenery by herself. A solo-traveler enthusiast, Saward says that traveling solo means sharpening your problem-solving skills.
“The scariest part is actually booking the ticket,” she remarked once in an interview with Redbrick. “When you land, you will quickly become a problem-solver and there’s nothing you can’t overcome”.
“Before I started travelling solo I was a very shy, introverted person,” admits Saward. “But when you are forced into situations that you need to figure out yourself (often with limited time), you really grow into yourself and come out of your shell. Solo travel is single-handedly the best thing I have done in my life so far.”

One reason for this is “flygskam” or flight shame, a social movement that aims to convince people not to fly in order to reduce the environmental impact of commercial flights. The movement started in 2018 in Sweden and spread around Europe.
We got to see how much healthier our planet can be without as many flights when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Suddenly, many people are second-guessing if flying is really the best way to reach certain destinations, and out of all the alternatives, trains can offer the most.
Traveling by train is safe, relatively fast, and can be very comfortable. You can sit, sleep, or walk around the train, there’s no traffic, there are no seatbelts. Good wi-fi, food options, and toilet availability can make you forget you’re even traveling.
There are no huge fees for excess luggage and train stations are typically located in the city center, unlike airports that leave you miles away from your destination.
