Food trends are always exploding across social media, often with their origins in TikTok. People share hacks, ideas, and recipes which often go viral and see millions of people across the world trying them out. Some of these are very odd, but some are truly innovative. Here are just a few of the most popular ones from 2023.

Cottage Cheese Recipes

This started as a way to add more protein to meals which is something many people are interested in. and the results proved to be surprising, with the addition of this ingredient in recipes from cookie dough to scrambled eggs. The extra protein hit is a great side to this trend, but its popularity ensued due to the tasty variety of foods it inspired.

Frozen Yogurt Bars

Another dessert trend with great results and little effort. The original trend involved mixing yogurt, peanut butter, protein powder, and chocolate and then freezing this on a stick. However multiple trends spiraled off of this with people trying their own flavor combos. Either way, it’s a tasty and easy dessert hack.

Easy Watermelon “Sorbet”

This trend became hugely popular due to its simplicity and deliciousness. It just requires freezing some watermelon and then blending it with lime juice to create a sorbet-like dessert with minimal effort.

TikTok is now one of the biggest social media platforms out there, so it’s no wonder that it has a major influence on trends in areas including fashion, wellness, skincare, beauty, and fitness. Some of these trends may be passing fads, but others are here to stay. Here’s our lowdown on three of the biggest TikTok trends that will stick around long into 2024.

Skincare

There’s a load of skincare information and advertising on TikTok, but one of the products that managed to stand out above the rest is Mighty Patch. These small skincare patches are packed full of zit-busting ingredients including glycolic and salicylic acid, and have garnered a huge following for their effectiveness in reducing the size and appearance of spots overnight.

BookTok

Who doesn’t love a healthy, wholesome trend? BookTok is the side of TikTok dedicated to a community of people who love reading and books. Whether it’s tips on the hottest new releases, ideas for color curating your home library, or sharing beautiful quotes from favorite reads, BookTok has helped generate interest (and sales) in books.

1-Minute Workouts

We all know that we should do as much physical exercise as possible, but in the average working week, it’s just not possible to squeeze in long workouts on top of everything else. Enter the TikTok trend for one-minute (or at least very short) workouts. Whether it’s grooving along to your favorite song, squat jumping for one minute or holding a plank, the app has seen an explosion in short, doable workouts. Fitting a few of these in over your week can really help to improve your fitness, so this is no passing fad.

2023 has been another amazing year for music, and many people used TikTok to discover new artists and songs. The impact of this social media platform on the music industry is undeniable, and they just unveiled their list of the top artists and songs for 2023.

The social media platform’s annual “Year on TikTok 2023” offered an overview of the biggest trends to emerge in the past 12 months. TikTok’s head of operations Adam Presser described it as “a window into stories that have inspired, entertained, and educated over 1 billion people around the world.”

In terms of music, 2023 has been a great year for Selena Gomez, who took the No. 1 spot on TikTok’s list of the top artists in the United States. It’s been reported that TikTok is planning to make a major push into gaming just last year, but it seems their plans have changed. TikTok maker ByteDance is scaling down its Nuverse gaming brand, casting a shadow of doubt over the mini-games that run on this social media platform.

Reuters was the first to break the news about Nuverse’s future, reporting that ByteDance wants to wind down this brand and retreat from mainstream video games. They reportedly told the employees to stop working on unreleased games by December and are looking for ways to divest from the already launched titles.

A ByteDance’s spokesperson addressed the news by simply saying, “We regularly review our businesses and make adjustments to center on long-term strategic growth areas. Following a recent review, we’ve made the difficult decision to restructure our gaming business.”

Reuters reports this decision won’t affect casual games that run on TikTok or TikTok’s sister app Douyin, launched by the gaming brand Ohayoo.

Marvel Snap the most notable game created by Nuverse, also shouldn’t be affected by ByteDance’s decision. According to their official statement, Marvel Snap will continue to operate and flourish in the future, regardless of any changes at Nuverse.

TikTok had an undeniable impact on the music industry in recent years, and they’re getting ready to take things one step further. This social media service introduced a brand-new feature, allowing its users to add music from TikTok to third-party music streaming services.

TikTok introduced the “Add to Music App” feature in partnership with Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. They’re rolling it out in the United States and the United Kingdom, but plan to introduce it in other markets, as well, in the upcoming months.

According to TikTok’s official announcement, this feature is meant to create “a direct link between discovery on TikTok and consumption on a music streaming service, making it easier than ever for music fans to enjoy the full-length song on the music streaming service of their choice, thereby generating even greater value for artists and rightsholders.”

Even before TikTok introduced this new feature, its impact on the music industry was impossible to deny. Several songs found viral popularity and climbed to the top of the charts thanks to this streaming service, from Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” to “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto. TikTok even partnered up with Billboard to launch a brand-new chart tracking the most popular songs on this social media platform earlier this year.

TikTok has given us many viral trends over the years, and one of its latest will be your cup of tea if you’re a history buff at heart. “Roman Empire” is currently trending across TikTok and other social media platforms, but what is this craze all about and how did it start?

The “Roman Empire” craze can be traced to Gaius Flavius, a Roman reenactor based in Sweden. Back in August, he posted an Instagram video prompting women to ask the men in their lives how often they think about the Roman Empire, and promised they’ll surprised by the answers.

Many Instagram and TikTok users followed his advice and asked the men in their lives how often they think about the Roman Empire, filming their hilarious answers along the way. The answers varied from a few times a day to once a week, and many of them received millions of views on TikTok.

the roman empire is actually fascinating

Historians tried to get to the bottom of this phenomenon, as well, explaining that the Roman Empire often pops into our minds due to its fascinating history, classic architecture, and military strategies that shaped it. Some pointed out that this fascination isn’t gender-specific, since many women think about the Roman Empire quite often, while others singled out several historical events that women ponder in equal measure, such as the Salem Witch Trials.

TikTok completely changed the music industry in the past few years and introduced us to countless new artists along the way. The social media giant recently released their list of global songs of the summer of 2023, including music from Mae Stephens, Fifty Fifty, and Ariana Grande.

If you’re expecting this long to feature songs that have been leading the charts all summer long, such as Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” and “Seven” by Jungkook and Latto – think again. The list consists of the most played songs from across this social media platform, ranked by the number of video creations each song got over the summer.

Mae Stephens topped the list with “If We Ever Broke Up”, followed by “What It Is (Solo Version)” by Doechii and “Girls Like Me Don’t Cry (Sped Up)” by Thuy. Several well-known artists made it to the list including Fifty Fity, Ariana Grande and Future, and Aqua with “Barbie Girl”.

Paul Hourican, global head of music content & partnerships at TikTok, praised the artists who made the cut – both new and rediscovered – for giving us a summer to remember.

“You can never predict what’s going to be TikTok’s Song of the Summer and that’s the beauty of the platform. It’s been another summer of discovery with our community embracing a diverse mix of genres, sounds, and incredible new talent,” said Hourican in a press release.

TikTok’s Global Songs of the Summer 2023:

The masterminds behind TikTok are constantly coming up with new ways to keep this social media platform fresh and relevant. Their latest attempt to establish themselves as the No. 1 Gen-Z place on the internet comes in the form of the newly announced standalone gaming platform.

Gaming is one of the most lucrative entertainment industries these days, so it’s not a shocker to see major entertainment companies trying to make a push into this world. TikTok’s attempt to set up its own gaming platform comes shortly after Netflix did something similar.

ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese owner, has been developing its own games for quite some time, and this innovation is a no-brainer for the company. Insiders report that game will most likely be accessed via a button on the homepage.

Assaf Sagy, who was appointed TikTok’s head of global gaming last month, sees TikTok and gaming as an organic fit because this social network always strived towards helping consumers discover what’s fun, valuable, and popular.

“TikTok and gaming were made for each other. look forward to working closely with all gaming companies globally to help make TikTok a central foundation in your marketing strategies,” wrote Sagy on LinkedIn.

The company’s first gaming event “TikTok Made Me Play It” is taking place on November 2, and it’s likely that’s when we’ll get more info about their gaming platform.

While YouTube and Instagram are still great online platforms to spread the word when it comes to up-and-coming musicians, TikTok has been taking over quite a large portion of that area, especially when it comes to Gen Z audiences. Some anonymous cover artists really got the hang of it and are reaching millions of listeners globally with just basic smartphone video and a bedroom setting. Here are three TikTok covers that made it big and crossed the coveted 1M views milestone.

Ebony Loren with Stereo Hearts

Ebony is crushing it with this one, bringing her own personal touch to the original version by Gym Class Heroes and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine. Her gentle voice and a simple guitar strumming pattern are all you need.

Sofia Camara with Favorite Crime

Sofia really gives it her all in this TikTok performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song. The comments range from “MAGICAL” and “WOW” to “how is it possible to reach these notes without pain.” Kudus!

TikTok is teaming up with artists to release an NFT (non-fungible tokens) collection titled “TikTok Moments” and Lil Nas X will be the first artist dropping them. The collection will feature six TikTok videos as one-of-a-kind NFTs as well as a series of limited-edition NFTs inspired by cultural moments from the platform. So how do the NFTs work?

TikTok will be auctioning tokens weekly in October with the proceeds going to the creators and NFT artists involved. Lil Nas X will be the first creator to launch one-of-a-kind and limited-edition TikTok NFTs with artist Rudy Willingham. They will feature Willingham’s viral stop-motion video of the artist’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” with each of the 81 frames having Willingham’s signature cutouts, photographed against a background that “reflects a different part of [Lil Nas X’s] genius,” according to TikTok.

Bella Poarch, Curtis Roach, Brittany Broski, FNMeka, Jess Marciante, and Gary Vaynerchuk, who are partnering with NFT artists including Coin Artist, x0r, RTFKT, and Grimes, are also releasing TikTok NFTs.

“As the creator economy continues to grow, we’re continually looking for new and differentiated ways to support our creators,” said Nick Tran, TikTok’s global head of marketing via Variety. “Now, fans can own a moment on TikTok that helped shape the internet while supporting some of their favorite creators.”

Lil Nas X’s will be released on October 6.

2023 has been another amazing year for music, and many people used TikTok to discover new artists and songs. The impact of this social media platform on the music industry is undeniable, and they just unveiled their list of the top artists and songs for 2023.

Gomez is followed by the rising star Natalie Jane, while the rapper Ice Spice and pop stars Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande rounded out the top five.

As for top songs of 2023, the sped-up version of Justine Skye’s “Collide” dominated the list, ahead of FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid – Twin Ver – Sped Up Version”, PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Her Way (Sped Up)”, Toosii’s “Favorite Song – Sped Up”, and “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice.

@ebonylorenmusic This song was stuck in my head last night 💕🌌 #cover#voiceeffects ♬ original sound – ebonyloren

Sofia Camara with Favorite Crime

Sofia really gives it her all in this TikTok performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song. The comments range from “MAGICAL” and “WOW” to “how is it possible to reach these notes without pain.” Kudus!

@sofiacamara I think I’m obsessed with this song 🙁 #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #viral #music #singing #sing #song #love #cover #coversong #toronto #emotional ♬ original sound – Sofia Camara

Samii.rosee with Impossible

Whether you prefer the James Arthur version or you are more team Shontelle, there’s no way to deny how good samii.rosee’s TikTok version of the song is. The girl is literally singing this lying on her bedroom carpet! It’s as raw and heartfelt as it gets.
